25,000 Bottles Recalled, and Class II Is the Second-Mildest Tier

The FDA recalled 25,027 bottles of a generic blood pressure drug in the United States. The drug is chlorthalidone, made by the Indian pharmaceutical company Inventia Healthcare Limited. The recall happened in two stages, and both are classified as Class II.

The number sounds alarming. The warning class is the part that should ease the worry instead.

Two stages, 25,027 bottles in total

The company issued two separate recalls on different dates.

• 5 June 2026 — 11,460 bottles
• 3 September 2026 — 13,567 bottles

These are two distinct events, not one large recall. The 25,027 figure is the sum of both.

The problem is dissolution speed

The cause is not poison, not contamination, and not a dosing error.

The tablets failed to meet the dissolution standard, which is the rate at which a tablet breaks down inside the body. A tablet that dissolves too slowly releases less of its active ingredient, so the medicine works less well.

For a blood pressure drug, reduced effectiveness means the pressure is harder to control. That is why a generic drug recall still matters, even when the risk is moderate.

Why Class II is not the worst tier

The FDA uses three warning classes. Class II means a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences, or the probability of serious consequences is remote.

There is a risk here, but this is not the mildest tier. Class I covers situations that can cause death or permanent harm. Class III covers the least serious ones.

What to Do

Check the batch number on your packaging and ask a pharmacist or doctor. Do not stop taking blood pressure medication on your own, because a sudden rise in blood pressure can be dangerous.
